New Report: The Right to Housing in Australia
Housing is a human right. We all deserve a safe, healthy and secure place to live, regardless of our bank balance or postcode.
But for too long, the housing crisis has been talked about in terms of prices, instead of people.
Authored by UTS Faculty of Law Professor Jessie Hohmann and commissioned by the Human Rights Law Centre, our new report The Right to Housing in Australia shows how an Australian Human Rights Act could transform our right to housing.
The report draws from experience both overseas and here, and shows how housing can be made more accessible to everyone by putting human rights at the heart of housing policies and laws.
This report adds to our collection of resources showing how a Human Rights Act would ensure the values we share like equality, compassion, dignity and freedom at the heart of our laws. Recent work includes fact sheets on the rights to health and education.
