New business and human rights website
The Human Rights Law Centre has launched a website, www.businesshumanrights.org.au, to assist civil society and other stakeholders to participate in the Government’s consultation on the implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
There is widespread support within Australian civil society for the consultation to lead to a National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights. A National Action Plan can provide an efficient and transparent framework to ensure that Australian law, policy and practice protects against adverse human rights impacts by businesses and provides access to remedy for those whose rights have been violated due to business-related activities.
The timelines and terms of reference for the Government’s consultation have not yet been released.
