2011 Children’s Rights Edition of Rights Agenda

This is the second Special Edition of  the Human Rights Law Centre Bulletin that focuses on child rights and is developed by collaboration between the HRLC, Mallesons Stephen Jaques and the National Children’s and Youth Law Centre. It coincides with National Youth Week 2011, the launch of the national youth law website, Lawstuff, and the preparation of the 2011 NGO Report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.

This Special Edition of the Bulletin considers many of the human rights and legal issues confronting Australia’s children and young people. It includes a discussion on the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Australian NGO report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child; a comparison of Canada and Australia’s implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child; information on the Commonwealth Commissioner for Children and Young People Bill 2010 (Cth); and the recognition of children’s rights in the NSW judicial system.
