Reducing Offending and Strengthening Correctional Accountability for a Safer Victoria

Over the last decade, prison numbers and spending in Victoria have increased significantly, with little evidence that this is making our community safer or is a sound investment. The Baillieu Government has the opportunity to shift from existing policies that are expensive, inefficient and ineffective and advance an evidence-based reform agenda that breaks the cycle of offending and strengthens community safety and cohesion.

Recognising this, the Human Rights Law Centre has prepared a short policy paper for the Victorian Government regarding correctional reform.
