Maggie Munn is a proud Gunggari advocate from south-west Queensland, and joined the Human Rights Law Centre as Legal Director of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples' Rights team in May 2024. They brings extensive campaigning and advocacy experience to their work. Maggie has previously held roles at Change the Record, Amnesty International, and the Federal Court.
Maggie is deeply committed to ending the mass incarceration of their people, and has spent many years as an advocate and campaigning on First Nations children, OPCAT compliance, raising the minimum age of criminal responsibility, and youth justice. They are passionate about First Nations justice, climate justice and land rights, disability justice and the abolition of the prison industrial complex.
With an undergraduate law degree from Bond University and ongoing studies in Human Services specialising in youth justice at Griffith University, Maggie combines academic rigour with real-world, grassroots activism. Their publications in the Australian Law Journal and frequent appearances on ABC, NITV, SBS, and NIRS have built up their reputation as a trusted, respected legal voice and advocate for change.
