Our High Court challenge to the Government's divisive and unnecessary postal plebiscite
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people should be able to marry the person they love. We don’t need a glorified opinion poll to know this.
Love is love.
A postal plebiscite will expose LGBTI people to hurtful abuse, will be non-binding, and will suppress the vote of people who support marriage equality.
And we also believe that the postal plebiscite is unconstitutional.
For these reasons we've helped Australian Marriage Equality to mount a High Court challenge against the unnecessary and divisive postal plebiscite. More details about the case can be found here and you can watch our press conference at the directions hearing here.
We want to make marriage equality happen the right way - by a free vote in Federal Parliament – not a harmful, wasteful and unnecessary plebiscite. Check out this opinion piece by our Anna Brown about the practical and balanced Bill that a group of Liberal MPs have released.
We will fight tirelessly to get rid of the postal plebiscite, but please be prepared and make sure your enrolment details are up to date with the Australian Electoral Commission by 24 August in case our challenge is unsuccessful.
Thanks for your support.
