Abortion law reform in Tasmania
The Tasmanian Government is calling for submissions regarding the proposal to decriminalise abortion through the introduction of the Reproductive Health (Access to Terminations) Bill 2013. The Bill provides for terminations before 16 weeks with a woman’s consent and after 16 weeks if a medical practitioner, in consultation with another practitioner, reasonably believes that the continuation of the pregnancy would ‘involve greater risk of injury to the physical or mental health of the pregnant woman than if the pregnancy were terminated.’ Submissions are due on 22nd July 2013. The Bill and guidelines for submissions are available here.
