Fundraising Auction 2014
It's that time of year again when we and our friends at Justice Connect gather an eclectic collection of goods, services and experiences for our Fundraising Auctions. The auctions conclude at the Annual Human Rights Dinners that we host with Justice Connect - this year in Melbourne on 13 June and in Sydney on 20 June.
Even people who are not attending the dinners can place bids on most of the items, so if you fancy any, get in quick with an early bid by emailing tom.clarke@hrlc.org.au citing the item and the amount of your bid.
All proceeds from the dinners and auctions are split evenly between HRLC and Justice Connect.

Signed copy of Julia Gillard's 'misogyny speech'
Former Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, will sign a copy of her famed 'misogyny speech' in which she said "I will not be lectured on sexism and misogyny by this man" of the then Leader of the Opposition, Tony Abbott. Ms Gillard's signing will be personalised for the winning bidder.

Wolfgang Sievers print - Plessey Research Laboratory, Melbourne, 1969 (Framed. Valued at $5,000)
Wolfgang Sievers is considered as one of the great Australian photographers along side the likes of Max Dupain and Athol Shmith with his iconic images of manufacturing processes, buildings, mines, landscapes and archaeological exhibits.
When Sievers passed away, he entrusted Julian Burnside with his remaining prints to use to raise money for human rights causes in Australia. We are extremely grateful and excited to be offering three limited prints as part of this auction. Watch Julian Burnside here talking about Wolfgang Sievers.

The winning bidder and four friends (five spots in total) will join the leader of The Australian Greens, Senator Christine Milne, for a boardroom lunch at a leading Sydney law firm. The HRLC’s Hugh de Kretser and Justice Connect’s Fiona McLeay will also be in attendance along with a host from the firm.

This limited edition print (8/100) by artist, Naomi Le Get from the www.theartofthegame.com.au, will be signed and personally dedicated to you by footy legend and Australian of the Year, Adam Goodes.
Dinner with Graeme Innes
Outgoing Disability Discrimination Commissioner, Graeme Innes, has also served as Australia's Human Rights Commissioner for three and a half years and as Race Discrimination Commissioner for two years. Graeme is a Lawyer, Mediator and Company Director. He has been a Human Rights Practitioner for 30 years in NSW, WA and nationally and has contributed to the success of a number of significant human rights initiatives.
The winning bidder and 7 of their guests will join Graeme for a fully catered dinner at Gilbert and Tobin lawyer. Human Rights Law Centre's Hugh de Kretser or Fiona McLeay of Justice Connect will also attend.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights signed and personalised by Hina Jilani
Our keynote speaker at the dinner, Hina Jilani, founded Pakistan’s first all-women law firm, its first legal aid centre and its national Human Rights Commission. She was awarded the Millennium Peace Prize for Women in 2001 and was the UN’s Special Representative on Human Rights Defenders between 2000-2008. Last year Ms Jilani was elected to join the International Commission of Jurists and she is also a member of the group of respected global leaders known as The Elders. Ms Jilani will sign and personalise this framed copy of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for the winning bidder.

Meditation course at Rigpa Sydney
Rigpa Australia, a Tibetan Buddhist organisation, conducts courses in meditation and Buddhist studies throughout the year in most capital cities, Newcastle and online. You can choose between the upcoming 2014 Sydney courses: Introduction to Meditation: Peace, Mindfulness and Awareness valued at $120, or the Introduction to the Tibetan Buddhist Understanding of Death and Dying valued at $150, both of which include essential guidance on meditation. Rehgan De Mather - painting titled "C"
2013 RAW Melbourne Visual Artist of the Year, Rehgan De Mather, has quickly established himself as a young artist to watch. His paintings 'replicate the traces of industry, and the cryptograms of graffiti, on walls of contemporary spaces, they flash with comic book exclamations, bleed with paint scrawled behind alleyways, and are seared by an essence of New York grit' and have sold for over $10,000. This piece, titled "C" is valued at $2,200 and is a study for a portrait of his mentor, and Australian sculptor, Clive Murray White.

This Fire-fighter experience involves an evening at the MFB headquarters in East Melbourne where you will participate in a variety of station activities including: Muster with the crew at Melbourne’s largest fire station at the start of their night shift at 6pm; Checking the equipment before any fire calls; Getting measured for personal protection clothing; Enjoying a meal with your new shift buddies; Touring the city in an operational fire truck; Participating in any training drills or lectures; Respond to Fire Calls with the crew in the truck. MFB ‘Junior Fire Chief for a Day’ (For kids)
As part of this experience, one of the MFB firefighters will personally escort one lucky kid at the ‘Junior Fire Chief for a Day’ experience held on Fridays at Eastern Hill fire station, East Melbourne. This involves being fitted out in a mini firefighter uniform, a chance to take part in the fire safety displays, learning how to use the fire hose and getting some hands-on firefighting experience. After the fire safety display, there will be a tour of firefighters’ living areas and our Fire Services Museum, followed by lunch with the crew and the presentation of an honorary Junior Fire Chief certificate. Family Farm Day
