"I just want my child to have a decent life somewhere safe"
Dear Friends,
I first met Subaita when her baby daughter, Moubani, was three months old. Alert and curious, Moubani was like any other healthy baby. Except she was locked up in immigration detention.
Subaita and Moubani faced imminent deportation to Nauru. Terrified at the prospect of raising a child in an offshore camp we know is harmful and unsafe, Subaita asked for our help.
12 months on, Subaita and Moubani are not on Nauru. Nor are they in detention. They are living in the Australian community. With your support, we’ve ensured that Moubani, Baby Asha and 36 other babies we represent are learning to walk and talk in parks and playgrounds around Australia instead of being trapped behind detention centre fences on a remote island.
Our urgent High Court action kept these families here temporarily. The #LetThemStay campaign we ran with GetUp! and the Australian Churches for Refugees Taskforce aims to keep them here permanently.
With your support, we’re having a real impact on people’s lives and shifting public opinion.
With your support, there’s so much more we need to do.
