Welcome appointment of new Victorian Human Rights Commissioner
This week the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission announced the appointment of Kristen Hilton as its new Commissioner.
The Human Rights Law Centre’s Executive Director, Hugh de Kretser, welcomed the appointment, saying he looked forward to Ms Hilton’s leadership protecting and promoting human rights in Victoria.
“Kristen Hilton is a great appointment as Victorian Commissioner. She has a proven track record advocating for access to justice and for the rights of people experiencing homelessness. We look forward to her strong and principled advocacy for human rights in her new role as Commissioner.”
In 2006 Ms Hilton worked at the Public Interest Law Clearing House (now Justice Connect) and played a key role in the establishment of the Human Rights Law Centre.
