Nicole Tooby is the government relations manager at the Human Rights Law Centre, based in Sydney. She facilitates the organization’s engagement with Australia’s federal, state and territory governments across a range of human rights policy issues.
Nicole was previously a program officer for the Asia Division at Human Rights Watch, where she worked to encourage the Australian government to take a more human rights-based foreign policy towards countries including but not limited to Myanmar, Vietnam, and Papua New Guinea. Nicole has conducted research into domestic human rights issues including the use of chemical restraint in aged care facilities, and deaths in custody of people with disabilities.
Nicole holds a master’s degree in Human Rights Law from the University of Melbourne, and a bachelor’s degree in International and Global Studies from The University of Sydney with honours in Government and International Relations.
