Chandi Bates - Media and Communications Manager

Chandi Bates joined the Human Rights Law Centre in October 2024 as Media and Communications Manager.

Chandi's expertise is in media, communications, and rapid-response and digital campaigning, with more than a decade of experience in the not-for-profit sector and progressive movement. She has worked on a range of high-profile, successful campaigns, and has extensive experience securing earned media coverage.

Prior to working at the Human Rights Law Centre, Chandi launched and led the Whistleblower Justice Fund's national campaign for whistleblowers, like David McBride and Richard Boyle, to be protected not prosecuted. Chandi also worked at GetUp as both a Media Advisor, and Campaign Director, leading GetUp's campaigns for press freedom, democratic integrity, and a fully funded public broadcaster. She has also worked as a parliamentary advisor to a number of MP's in NSW Parliament.
