Submission to the AusNCP's Procedure Consultation
The Australian National Contact Point for Responsible Business (AUSNCP) is Australia’s principal corporate human rights watchdog, which investigates complaints and mediates disputes regarding alleged misconduct by Australian multinational enterprises.
In a submission to the consultation on AusNCP’s revised draft complaint procedures, the Human Rights Law Centre recommends:
Additional powers and resourcing for the AusNCP's independent examiners to investigate complaints of corporate misconduct;
Sanctions for companies found to have breached their responsibilities, such as the withdrawal of trade support and exclusion from public procurement processes;
Greater accessibility for impacted individuals and communities to bring complaints and meaningfully engage in dispute resolution.
